Fitch

Fitch fought his potential abductors and by doing so he saved the life of his brother Abercrombie.
Unfortunately Fitch could not recover from the injuries he received from these cruel and heartless people and he succumbed. Fitch lost his battle for life on March 5, 2007 at 11:56pm at the University of Georgia.
Rest in Peace Dear Brave Fitch... For you we will continue to fight!!!

Help Make Dreams Come True

Sponsorship Package

Pure Thoughts has developed a sponsorship program specific to last month’s “Miracle Save.” An individual or organization may sponsor one of the rescue horses for a donation of $500. In return, you’ll feel great about having joined our efforts. You’ll also receive a sponsorship package including a bottle of wine with a picture of your sponsored horse on the label. You will also receive a keepsake horseshoe (one actually pulled from the “Miracle Save” group, decorated by a Florida artist, along with a framed picture and a description of your special horse. You will also have the option of becoming a “guardian” to your sponsored horse so you may receive updates on the horse’s well-being throughout his or her life.

This program is critical to our ability to vet, feed, board and care for these precious horses. What better gift to give yourself or your friends and family – the gift of life, and the gift of love. Your donation or sponsorship represents the gift of a second chance at life and happiness for 163 horses who otherwise would have been broken and killed. Thanks to the help of people like you who are reading this, it can and will happen for these beautiful horses.

Let them be born without fear, let them live a life of peace,
and please, when it is time, let them die as they lived;
fearless, painless and peaceful.

Pure Thoughts is an all volunteer 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to saving the lives of horses, yearlings and foals that were bound for the foreign owned slaughterhouses in our country. These horses would have been brutally tortured and slaughtered so that they could be served as a delicacy in foreign countries. In addition we also rescue horses from starvation, abuse and neglect, any horse in need. We haved saved over 500 innocent equines and as long as these cruel acts continues we will continue to fight for the horses. We cannot do this alone...we need your help!! Please help us and others save these beautiful animals
and please remember in your thoughts the ones we were unable to reach.

Update Miracle Save June 15th
The horses that are in Ohio are all doing well except for our one Shire cross who is the husband of the Shire team. He still needs many thoughts and prayers and I am saddened to say ... he needs a miracle. We may have to make the decision at some point in the near future. Someone else will have to make this decision. I will have to leave it up to Victoria and Brad this time. I have been good about these decisions up until now but this boy has such a special place in my heart and I cannot make this one. The wife loves him so much and he was so sweet taking care of her when they were in Ohio. I remember sitting on the side of the arena the first time he would come up and take treats from my hand. I had spent days trying to get him to earn my trust just sitting and standing by him and waiting for him to decide I was OK. The first time he would finally sniff me and then take the treat I had a smile from ear to ear. It was another bright spot in a horrible time. I wanted to jump up and hug him but I knew that would scare the dickens out of him. After he took the treat, the wife was just like 6 inches behind him and he looked over at her and nickered as if to say "It's OK, they are nice people and the treats are good." Then she stepped up and cautiously took one to. After that she let me do whatever she wanted. The day they loaded to doctor's he loaded but she would not. I was not there I was in the barn and they left without her. She was so depressed when the trailer came back she would not load. That night she was very despondent. I put a halter on her and took her out and fed her by myself and just hung out with her, she nuzzled with me until I had to finally leave it was so late. The next day they brought the husband back and then she would load on the trailer. I just do not have the strength to make this decision.
Florida
Everyone is doing well and we have had a chance to start evaluating the horses. The maternity ward is color color color.. three paints that are all pregnant and of course the dutiful Red Dun gelding that faithfully watches over his mare. We think the first to give birth will be the bay paint, she seems to be anywhere from a week to a month away.. LOL.. I am usually good at this but she has me baffled. I would say the other two are over a month away.
Belgian number 80 on her bum went home, I am not sure if I already posted about that but she is doing very well and her new family is very happy. A perfect match
Two more have been adopted but have not gone home yet. They are a handsome Bay Gelding TB, who has hip number 423. I will take pictures tomorrow because I have to start getting pictures of all of the TB's to pull there tattoos... And one of the all time favorites to Carol ... the Chestnut Gelding TB who just loves his treats and tells you so by nodding his head. They will be going together with an amazing family. We are so happy. They now have their forever family. Lovely people who are friends of Victoria came out to see the horses and what we were doing.. they fell in love.
The Blind Belgian Mare and her friend will also be going to their forever home. A wonderful woman named Michelle who is a friend of Victoria has opened her heart and her beautiful home to these two. The one Belgian is so beautiful and he takes such good care of the blind in one eye Belgian mare who is soon to be as stunning on the outside as she is on the inside. She will also be taking one of the Halflingers that is a little off in his feet but we think that is just an abscess. The past few days Michelle, Paulette and Sabrina have been spending their time taking care of the horses at two of the barns. ... and oh do they look beautiful.. these horses look like show horses ... they are being primped and loved like you cannot believe. Yesterday they "beautified" one of the sorrel paint mares (not the pregnant one) and you can guess what happened.. yes they fell in love again so Michelle will be taking her too. Such lucky lucky horses!!! The life ahead of them will make them forget any pain they once knew. The horses are not leaving yet but they are already part of their forever family.
You can see the look in the horses eyes.. It is one of peace and surety. There is no longer any fear. They no they are safe and some of them are even getting demanding which is our favorite thing to see. It is wonderful to see the spirit back in them. Life is good and it is only going to get better.
I still am overwhelmed by the people coming out to help the horses, you cannot imagine it and leading the group is Victoria there every single day, all of us doing anything and everything for these horses. It does not matter who you are, the heart is the guide and the hearts are with the horses. Our days are filled with smiles as we watch these horses blossom, yet again into the wonderful animals they once were before life took a horrible turn on them.
On a funny note, you do learn to appreciate the smallest of things that life gives us. Last week Brad and I both desperately needed a hair cut, even long before the rescue mission. Well, we did not have time during the day. About 10:30 at night the woman who adopted Simpatico, who is also a hair dresser called us and said. "Well, my last client just left and you can run over now. We both were exhausted and tired but we knew we would not have time during the day so we said "OK." Well, we had been eating soup basically because I have not had time to do any grocery shopping and just as we said that we were hungry we looked down outside of the pantry and saw a can.. WAHOO.. Chefboyardee (sp) with a flip top. We grabbed two forks and ran out to the truck to go get are hair cut with the can of beefaroni in hand...IT WAS A GOOD THING!!!
These horses are in some of the most beautiful barns you can imagine but as we always say.. it is not where they live as long as it is safe, it is the love they get by the people who love them that counts. Right now these horses know nothing but love ... and tomorrow always comes for them and this time.. tomorrow brings happiness.
